Triple-Wow! A fantastic  turn-out in Auckland on Thursday night.

The audience was indeed very diverse, and did include representatives from insurance and InsurTech, as well as wealth management and other types of financial services, and even the education sector who are interested in the skills required for growing FinTech.

DAY 2:  WELLINGTON

Wow! Another great turn-out in Wellington last night. FinTech is certainly happening in Wellington, and our guest of honour was definitely the highlight of the programme.

The Honourable Jacqui Dean – Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs, and Minister of Small Business – spoke about how fast FinTech is growing in New Zealand, how it underpins the rest of our economy and will shape our future for all businesses large and small. She then talked about how committed the central government is as a member of this new community, as well as an active participant in the sector as both a regulator and an innovator. After that, she pronounced the New Zealand Financial Innovation and Technology Association – aka FinTechNZ – officially founded, launched, and ‘open for business’.

DAY 1:  CHRISTCHURCH

Wow! What a fantastic turn-out in Canterbury last night.

FinTech is obviously important to the ‘mainland’.  🙂

We were very fortunate to deliver our first launch presentation to a highly engaged audience, as Cantabrians usually are once they get to know you in person, and have seen you around a few times.  We received some really good searching questions, and some very insightful input during the Q&A / Open Feedback part of the programme.  As a result, I am already updating a few things in my presentation this morning for Wellington this evening.

New Zealand’s biggest and smartest financial businesses are coming together with the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) around the launch of FinTechNZ, to take place in Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland next week.

With the support of NZTech, FinTechNZ will bring together innovative companies across the diverse financial services industry, to become key contributors in shaping and driving the fintech revolution. Many other countries already have a national fintech umbrella organisation.

NZ’s first fintech umbrella organisation to be launched

A New Zealand tech leader today announced an initiative to bring together the national financial technology (fintech) community.

Augen Software Group director and NZTech chair Mitchell Pham made the announcement to set up FinTechNZ at the inaugural Finnotec 2016 conference in Auckland today. The event was organised by fintech company SavvyKiwi, whose founder is passionate about providing a place for the NZ fintech community to learn and grow together each year.
