What to expect: Women exporting to India

India is a diverse and exciting country – home to 1.35 billion people it is the world’s largest democracy. India is also the fifth largest economy by nominal gross domestic product (GDP), and the 10th largest importer in the world. Currently, our main exports to India are education services, fruit, travel services and wood – but with growth in urbanisation, digitisation and an increasing appeal for western products and brands.

Are you interested in India as your next export market? But you’re not sure where to start, especially as a woman? Our team of business development managers often get asked what to expect when you’re exporting to India – particularly if you’re a woman led business.

We’ve invited three women that we work with to share their experiences and tips with the group, including tech entrepreneur Carmen Vicelich who won Fintech Startup of the Year at the India Fintech Awards, Sarah Meikle who set up Tourism New Zealand’s permanent office in Mumbai, and Tracey Burns who is the Export Division Manager for Freshmax shipping fruit to India. We’ll also have some of our NZTE team there to provide general business insights and support.

This session will be hosted on Zoom for a group of our women-led exporters.
