New tech drives FinTech growth

#

Last week, the Financial Markets Authority (FMA) announced its proposal to leapfrog the 2019 Financial Advisors Act law reform, in order to allow the provision of online advice. This is great news for the country!

There was plenty to celebrate last week with milestone figures being announced at the launch of the 2017 TIN Report; the tech sector breaking the $10 billion revenue barrier and the third largest contributed towards GDP. The FinTech sector has also grown by 48%.

A crucial part of my role is to connect, promote and advance the New Zealand economy. Just last week, I was able to facilitate a meeting between estate planners Perpetual Guardian and identity platform, Tradle which has led to a successful collaboration.

In other news, applications for the Kiwibank FinTech Accelerator close 1 December. I have been appointed to the advisory panel for the accelerator’s second phase which has created companies like Sharesies, who will be joining us on our visit to the Singapore FinTech Festival. Currently, more than 20 companies have registered to attend next month’s festival, so please get in touch if you would like to join us.

As William Wallace would say, “it’s time to unite the clans”. I believe we have a window of opportunity to make New Zealand the destination of choice with for all things FinTech, so let’s work together to inspire greatness!
