Driving Innovation with a Central Bank Digital Currency – Workshop
Join this interactive session where issues relevant to new, small or third party service providers will be discussed. The results of this workshop will inform the RBNZ’s future of money work program and the RBNZ’s external CBDC forum, they will also be presented to FintechNZ members.
In 2021, the Reserve Bank published three Future of Money – Te Moni Anamata issues papers, one of which canvassed a potential Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) for New Zealand. The Reserve Bank is now investigating in more detail how a potential Central Bank Digital Currency might be designed. This includes investigating the ecosystem through which a potential CBDC would be issued and transacted on and through which additional services could be built. It has identified some stylised ecosystem models and what they could mean for innovation and resilience in New Zealand’s payments landscape.
The Reserve Bank would welcome the opportunity to test its thinking with you.
Join an interactive session where issues relevant to new, small or third party service providers will be discussed. Particular topics include:
- pain points in the current payments landscape
- the key components of a CBDC ecosystem
- how a CBDC could facilitate and drive an open and competitive payments ecosystem
The results of this workshop will inform the RBNZ’s future of money work program and the RBNZ’s external CBDC forum, they will also be presented to FintechNZ members.
This work will ultimately inform how a New Zealand CBDC would be designed to maximise benefits to the efficiency, resilience, innovation and inclusion of New Zealand’s money and payments system.
We will be joined by RBNZ Money and Cash Policy Team’s Amber Wadsworth and Tim Duston CBDC and Payments Advisor, RBNZ.
